T

he Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is considering several names from within its camp to run as gubernatorial candidates for Central Java in the upcoming regional head elections, although it remains open to names from other parties.

The PDI-P opened on Wednesday the registration for aspiring gubernatorial candidates in the province.

The party’s Central Java branch (DPD) stated that registration forms are available at its office on Brigjen Katamso road in Semarang until May 28, and can be submitted by May 30 at the latest.

The branch’s treasurer, Agustina Wilujeng, said the DPD had told its branch executive boards (DPC) in districts and cities across Central Java to collect and screen potential names to run in the Nov. 27 elections, where voters across the country will elect their governors, mayors and regents simultaneously across 37 provinces (excluding only Yogyakarta) and more than 500 regencies and cities.

Agustina further revealed that the party was considering several names to run for the Central Java gubernatorial seat, including the chairman of PDI-P Central Java branch Bambang “Pacul” Wuryanto and the head of PDI-P Semarang branch Hendrar “Hendi” Prihadi.

Bambang chairs the House of Representatives Commission III overseeing legal affairs, while Hendrar was the former mayor of Semarang from 2013 to 2022.
