Gerindra to announce Ridwan-Suswono ticket next week

enior executive of the Gerindra Party and an aide to president-elect Prabowo Subianto Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said on Tuesday that parties in the Onward Indonesia Coalition (KIM) would announce the gubernatorial bid of Ridwan Kamil for the Jakarta election next week.
Dasco said that Ridwan, currently a senior politician with the Golkar Party, would be paired with senior Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Suswono.
"We have agreed to make the announcement on Aug. 19, probably in the afternoon," Dasco said, as quoted by Antara.
The senior Gerindra politician also confirmed that Suswono, a former minister under the administration of president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, would be Ridwan's running mate.
"That's the name that has been talked about. Pak Zul has also confirmed that," Dasco said, referring to National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Zulkifli Hasan.
The ruling coalition of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, which is backed by Gerindra, faces the possibility of an uncontested race in the Jakarta gubernatorial election after it managed to pry the PKS from a possible coalition that had planned to nominate former presidential candidate Anies Baswedan.
With the PKS joining the ruling coalition, Anies might not be able to register his gubernatorial bid in this year's regional election as he is only supported by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), which has only 18 seats on the Jakarta council.
