he remains of a 19-year-old Indonesian woman were finally repatriated to North Sumatra, after being held in Cambodia for two weeks because her family could not afford the cost of bringing her home.
The body of the young woman, identified as Nazwa Aliya, left Phnom Penh on Saturday and arrived at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang Regency on Sunday morning. Her remains were then transported to her family’s home in Bandar Khalipah village, about 23 kilometers away.
After a brief two-hour stay at the house for funeral prayers, she was laid to rest at a nearby cemetery.
Nazwa’s mother, Lanniari Hasibuan, said the costs for her daughter's repatriation were covered by the mass organization New Indonesian People’s Movement (GRIB).
“I’d like to thank all the parties who helped with Nazwa’s repatriation from Cambodia and her funeral arrangements, including the Indonesian government officials who assisted with the paperwork,” she said on Saturday.
