othing lasts forever and neither does Instagram’s logo. Now, Instagram users can see a glowing, gradient-colored icon on their smartphone instead of the old signature brown Polaroid one.
Wednesday night, Instagram announced its first major logo change since 2010, as well as a minor features update. Nothing really changed on the features, except that the blue-white template was replaced by a black-and-white one.
Instagram stated that it made this change to help users upload both photos and videos. Through its official blog, Instagram said, “The Instagram community has evolved over the past five years from a place to share filtered photos to so much more — a global community of interests sharing more than 80 million photos and videos every day. Our updated look reflects how vibrant and diverse your storytelling has become.” They also pointed out that the gradient color in the logo was picked to represent the rainbow shape that used to be on the top of the previous logo.

Users have mixed reactions over the changes. Although many have said that they do not recognize that much of a change from the features, the majority have expressed that the new logo isn’t to their liking.
For example, Arya Satya, a worker with an advertising agency in Jakarta, said “There doesn’t seem to be any change in the feature. Somehow the app is nicer to see because the inside is only black and white now. It feels clean. But the icon does look a little bit tacky, like a cheap photo editing app.”
Another user, Andhika Aldhin, told The Jakarta Post that he had no problem in using the new features of Instagram, but he didn't like the new logo either.
How about you? How do you like this new change? (kes)
