At Computex 2016 on Tuesday, Dell aunched its latest 2-in-1 laptops with versatile 360-degree hinges that cover different price segments and aim to meet customers’ everyday computing needs.
mid a current decline in worldwide PC shipments, the sales of 2-in-1s have reportedly grown as users have become more familiar with the crossover device, which combines the features of a laptop and a tablet, and consider it a good replacement for regular PCs.
“The sales of 2-in-1s was up last year; it is a category that we want to win and do very well,” said Dell consumer product marketing vice president Ray Wah during a group interview at Computex 2016 in Taipei on Tuesday.
True to his word, Wah revealed the US company’s latest 2-in-1 laptops with a versatile 360-degree hinge that covers different price segments and aims to meet customers’ everyday computing needs.
With a starting price of US$249 for the US and China markets, the entry-level Inspiron 3000 2-in-1 features an 11-inch laptop and tablet with colorful design, HD resolution display, USB 3.0 port and microSD media card reader and targets students going back to school and families seeking an affordable solution.

Going up on the price ladder at $529 (also in the US and China), the mainstream Inspiron 5000 2-in-1 series boasts 13- and 15-inch laptops with starting weight of 1.64 kilograms, wide-angle FHD resolution display, an infrared camera option that works with Windows Hello facial recognition that enables users to log in with just a look, SSD and up to 16GB of dual channel DDR4 memory.
For the premium Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 series, Dell offers the option of 13, 15 and 17-inch laptops; all come with aluminum design, 6th Gen Intel Core processor, FHD resolution, infrared camera, Waves MaxxAudio Pro audio software and 802.11ac wireless. With starting price of $749 (again, only for the US and Chinese markets), the latter is particularly special since it is said to be the world’s first ever 17-inch 2-in-1 laptop.
When asked why the 2-in-1s did not come with detachable keyboard, Wah said that the company took the approach of a 2-in-1 laptop that can be converted into a tablet and not the other way around since it aimed to attract users who would use the device more in laptop mode.
“We want to cater to customers who want to purchase a laptop with the additional feature of using it as a tablet,” said Wah.
The 11-inch Inspiron 3000 will reportedly be available in Indonesia in the coming months alongside several devices from the Inspiron 5000 and 7000 2-in-1 series.
