as your group chat ever fired 50 messages in the five minutes that you went offline? You may find yourself wanting to reply to a specific message in the chat but the topic of conversation has shifted to something another group member has brought up. If you find yourself in this situation, WhatsApp’s latest feature can help. It recently added a “quote and reply” feature to enable users to select specific messages to respond to.

Having passed its beta-tester phase, the update is available for both Android and iOS users.

To use the feature, users are required to select the desired message bubble until options pop up. Then select “reply”, which will quote the message onto your keyboard and provide space below it for you to type your message. The feature works for both one-on-one chats as well as group chats. It also works with media files.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp is trying to make its app simpler for users by adding the ability to refer to old messages, or messages that are deep in the rapid fire banter. On top of this new feature, it is also fully encrypted end-to-end, which means that your messages will no longer be prone to third-party interception. WhatsApp is also looking into adding video-calling, GIFs and file-sharing features. (sab/kes)
