MTV announced the nominees for the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday and Taylor Swift is not on the list.

At last year's event, Swift swept the board when she was nominated for 10 awards and went on to win four of them, including Video of the Year for her Bad Blood video.

But this year she did not score any nominations after touring worldwide for much of 2015, despite releasing videos for Out of the Woods and New Romantics in late 2015 and early 2016.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé scored a career-best of 11 nominations for her Lemonade visuals, Adele notched eight nominations and the controversial video for Kanye West’s Famous -- which features portrayals of 12 nude celebrities, including Swift, sleeping next to the rapper --  got two nominations, including for top award of Video of the Year.

The singer-songwriter is no stranger to controversy, and is currently embroiled in sagas with the likes of ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris (who has also been nominated for three VMAs) and Kim Kardashian. She also misunderstood a Nicki Minaj tweet about celebrating more than slim bodies, and tweeted a rude response. Fortunately they buried the hatchet before performing their songs, including Trini Dem Girls and Bad Blood.

The event is slated to air live on MTV from Madison Square Garden in New York on Aug. 28. (tif/kes)
