nfertility is not the only thing that makes women unable to conceive. Conception is related to many physical, mental and emotional aspects. It is important we are aware of negative factors so that we can find appropriate ways to deal with them.

Men’s problems

Your chance of conception can greatly be influenced by the quality of sperm. Low-quality sperm may not be strong enough to reach a woman’s egg, hence reducing fertility. Moreover, the flow of sperm can also be hindered by irregular sperm duct structure. Around 30-40 percent of couples are affected by this factor.

Endometriosis

This is a chronic condition of the reproductive system that prevents the meeting of the sperm and egg and hinders the normal route of a fertilized egg to the fallopian tubes because of the peculiar growth of cells from endometrium. This issue causes pain during periods and intercourse. However, the problem can be resolved by surgery.

Ovulation disorders

This occurs when you have a problem with your menstrual cycle. It becomes longer or shorter than normal and is not stable. Worse, there may be no ovulation. Between 20 to 40 percent of women suffer from this issue. There are many reasons behind this such as hormonal imbalances, excessive exercise, excessive weight loss or gain and excessive stress. Ovulatory disorders can be treated with oral drugs like Clomid. Doctors also recommend IVF for older couples or when a woman reaches menopause earlier than normal.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

This is an ovulatory dysfunction from the ovary, leading to hormone imbalances. The symptoms are complicated and appear differently in each person. The signs can be a lack of ovulation, abnormal menstrual cycle, excessive weight gain, acne, unusual facial hair or infertility. Still, there are solutions: diet and exercise.

Unhealthy lifestyle

Being overweight or underweight has a considerable effect on fertility; therefore, eating foods that are too high in fat or having a nutritional deficiency can interfere with hormonal functions. Besides unhealthy foods, it is advisable to stay away from alcohol and smoking as they have a negative effect on sperm count and ovulation. Last but not least, keep yourself mentally healthy and avoid stress because it can also be a cause behind ovulatory irregularities.

Before trying to get pregnant, it is always a good idea to visit a fertility doctor. With early diagnosis, these problems can be treated, which will increase your chances of having a child. (kes)
