ee Jong Suk is considered a South Korean heartthrob who has challenged himself with various types of roles, including as leading actor in highly popular dramas, including the recent W.

The following are among the many projects that have helped pave his way to stardom.

Secret Garden (2010)

Following his debut in the K-drama industry with Princess Prosecutor in 2010, Lee chose Secret Garden as his second project, in which he starred as Han Tae-sun, a young composer who has a crush on the second male lead, Oska (Yoon Sang-hyun). The drama itself is a romantic comedy that follows the love story between a stuntwoman, Gil Ra-im (Ha Ji-won), and a department store CEO, Kim Joo-won (Hyun Bin), who bizarrely swap bodies one day.

School 2013 (2012)

Lee landed his first lead role in School 2013 as Go Nam-soon, an ex-delinquent who gets elected class president. Following the show, Lee and Kim Woo-bin, who played Park Heung-soo, received public recognition due to their bromance in the drama.

I Can Hear Your Voice (2013)

Prior to W, Lee also starred in another fictional drama titled I Can Hear Your Voice, in which he played Park Soo-ha, a young man who is able to hear people’s unspoken thoughts. Other main characters in the film are Jang Hye-sung (Lee Bo-young), a girl who saved his life from a murderer, and the murderer himself, Min Joon-kook (Jung Woong-in). Lee won numerous awards through this drama, including an excellence award and a couple awards alongside Lee Bo-young.

Doctor Stranger (2014)

Lee challenged himself with another role in Doctor Stranger. His character, Park Hoon, is a genius surgeon who is kidnapped and taken to North Korea as a child, and later tries to leave for South Korea with his lover, only to make it out alone. The drama gained huge popularity in China with hundreds of millions of views recorded on the country’s online video streaming platforms.

Pinocchio (2015)

Lee transformed into Ki Ha-myeong in Pinocchio as a man who becomes a reporter despite despising the media for framing his father. Ki is also conflicted since the person whom he loves, Choi In-ha (Park Shin-hye), is a “Pinocchio”, or a type of human who is supposedly unable to lie yet has contributed in making his family suffer. Lee won many awards for his role in the film, including a top excellence award, most popular TV actor and a best couple award with lead actress Park Shin-hye. (kes)
