ne of the most influential artists of all time, Morrissey, is set to perform for a second time in Jakarta on Oct. 12 in Senayan, South Jakarta. The British singer performed in Jakarta in 2012, and news of this year’s concert was leaked via unofficial Morrissey website true-to-you.net in January.

Known for his particular requests and strong belief in social causes, Morrissey never ceases to amaze even his most fanatic fan. Here are five things every Morrissey fan should know before attending Wednesday’s concert.

Animal products are prohibited at the concert venue

Morrissey takes a strong stance on vegetarianism. One of the ways to show his devotion is by banning all meat products at his concert venues. “Among the prerequisites for the concert that should be noted is that no meat products are allowed in the concert area,” concert promoter KiosPLAY told kompas.com on Oct. 5.

No pics, no smokes, this is not a hoax

Morrissey wants concertgoers to enjoy his performance without any distractions. All cameras, be they professional DSLRs, GoPro or selfie stick, are prohibited. When he first performed in Jakarta in May 2012, Morrissey banned smoking within the concert venue and fans obliged. News alert to smokers: the rule still applies.

Get close

Those lucky enough be close to the stage tomorrow may get an opportunity to get closer to Morrissey. During his concert in 2012, Morrissey approached his fans and shook their hands despite security guards and the fence between the stage and the audience. Some of his fans succeeded in giving the singer hugs and flowers. “I knew the next song was going to be ‘Let Me Kiss You’ so I said to myself I have to get on stage and try to kiss him,” a member of the audience told The Jakarta Post at the time.

He sends powerful letters

Morrissey is an animal rights activist and closely collaborates with PETA. When he was here the first time, he sent a letter to then forestry minister Zulkifli Hasan regarding conditions at Surabaya Zoo, East Java, where animals had died of mysterious causes. In his letter, the singer demanded the minister close the zoo and that the animals be moved to other facilities that could care for them properly.

He is a ‘humasexual’

Known for his secretive nature about his private life, Morrissey’s sexual preference remains a mystery. His decision to stay celibate didn’t help eliminate gay rumors, and his use of the word “you” -- often found in his songs, such as “Let Me Kiss You”, “I Like You”, or “All You Need is Me” -- only make fans more curious. In October 2013, Rolling Stone cited True to You, which quoted the singer writing from Sweden, “Unfortunately, I am not homosexual. In technical fact, I am humasexual. I am attracted to humans,” he wrote. “But, of course … not many.” (aws)
