“I want to be an inspirational artist,” said Tiffany Komara repeatedly during the opening of her solo exhibition at the Sunrise Art Gallery & Arcade at the Fairmont hotel in Central Jakarta, on Saturday.

Born in 1991, Tiffany was diagnosed with autism at 5 years old. She started painting in 2007, but the activity has stopped due to retinal detachments, which led to her losing her eyesight in one eye. “Now she can only see from her left eye with half a retina,” said Tiffany’s mother Meilisa Lo Mie Kian.

Dubbed “From the Eyes of Tiffany”, the exhibition is hosted by London School Center for Autism Awareness (LSCAA); aiming to inform that autistic kids can be excellent in arts.

Slated to run until Nov. 5, the event displays 12 of Tiffany's artworks. Each painting has five reproductions that are available for sale. All profits will go to Tiffany and three autism organizations. (kes)
