The show, which will run from Nov. 11 to 13 at Ciputra Artpreneur in South Jakarta, features eight performers dressed as chefs.

In Saturday’s performance, the MC Chef and Rhythm Chef served as beat-boxers who provided the show's sound effects. The muscular Iron Chef and young Rookie Chef performed break-dance, while accompanied by the Sexy Chef and Cutie Chef, who both entertained viewers with theatrical performances.

Two “head chefs”—the soprano-voiced Red Chef and kung fu expert Green Chef—took the role as “public speakers” who interacted with members of the audience and brought some of them up onto the stage. They even used Indonesian phrases, such as “Hei kamu, beresin dong. Ini mahal” (Hey you, clean this up. This is expensive) when communicating with the audience.

Event promoter Yes24 Entertainment Indonesia director Jun-ho Lee said this was the third time the Bibap team had come to Indonesia. In 2013 and 2015, they performed in front of limited numbers. This year, the show was opened more widely to the public.

Lee said the audiences' response to the show were good.

“We will review this show and if we find there is potential, we will perform in other cities, like Surabaya, next year," Lee said after the show.

Based on the Korean traditional dish bibimbap (rice mixed with vegetables and beef), the show presents a brand-new style of non-verbal performance over its 80-minute duration.

Non-verbal dance performances, like Bibap, are a popular tourist attraction in South Korea, as they can reach multicultural audiences with minimal dialog. Besides Bibap, other famous performers include Nanta and Jump, which both visited Indonesia in 2014 for mini performances. (hwa)
