ith support from the Mexican Parliament, 21 Indonesian-inspired paintings are displayed at the Relatos Sabatico art exhibition in the lobby of the Senate of the Republic of Mexico from Nov. 22 to 25.

The exhibition features works by Mexican artist Sara Ali, an alumni of the Darmasiswa scholarship program organized by the ministries of culture and education and foreign affairs, which had enabled her to study traditional dance in Surakarta, Central Java, in 2013.

In one of her works entitled “Keraton Siji”, Ali showcases the beauty of batik from the Surakarta Palace. Her paintings have become a medium for her to recall the memories of her life in the charming city, kompas.com reported.

Together with head of the Mexican Parliament’s Commission of Culture, Gerardo Sanchez Garcia, Indonesian Ambassador to Mexico Yusra Khan opened the exhibition, expressing his pride about the Darmasiswa program that inspired Ali’s exhibition and fosters bilateral relations between Indonesia and Mexico.

Garcia spoke about the importance of presenting cultures from around the world through different mediums.

The exhibition was well received by the parliament, with one of its members, Carmen Dorantes Martinez, remarking that Ali’s works opened her eyes for Indonesia’s cultural richness.

Not only is this painting exhibition a platform for Sara Ali to showcase her work, but it is also a means of introducing Indonesian culture to the world. (mra/kes)
