Jakarta Old Town Jazz Series to commence tonight

The first show of “Old Town Jazz Series” is set to take place at Van Vleuten & Cox, Kota Tua (old town) in West Jakarta tonight.

or those looking for a different kind of entertainment this Friday night, the first show of  “Old Town Jazz Series” might be an option. The event is set to take place at Van Vleuten & Cox, Kota Tua (old town) in West Jakarta tonight at 7PM.

The premiere performance highlights jazz quartet Shadow Puppets featuring veteran singer Harvey Malaihollo. The collaboration will showcase modern jazz versions of Indonesian classics written by legendary songwriters, such as Ismail Marzuki, Sam Saimun, Bing Slamet, Muchtar Embut and more.

“We would like to preserve the richness of Indonesia’s music history in parallel with our mission to revitalize Jakarta Old Town as a historical tourism site and a creative city through this event,” organizers of The Jakarta Old Town Revitalization Corporation (JOTRC) said in an official statement.

Old Town Jazz Series is a pilot project by The Jakarta Old Town Revitalization Corporation (JOTRC), a consortium of both private and state-owned companies. It is set to showcase Indonesian classic songs, ranging from the 1950s-1970s era in the format of modern jazz with the backdrop of Jakarta’s old town area. (asw)
