Amid the "Om Telolet Om" craze, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has given his take on the phenomenon.

“It is the power and potential of social media, as well as the public’s modesty, delight and happiness, to have a form of entertainment or hobby. I think it is a very good thing,” said Jokowi in Karawang, West Java, on Friday as quoted by Antara news agency.

However, he also said the public had to know the limitations in seeking entertainment, particularly in regard to safety.

The "Om Telolet Om" phenomenon, the phrase of which started with children from a rural Javanese area asking for bus horn sounds from drivers, has gone viral on social media.

Not only locally, the phenomenon has also spread to the rest of the world as celebrities, such as renowned DJs and K-pop stars, have begun to use the phrase as requested by their Indonesian fans. (mas/kes)
