em>Deadpool has been named the most illegally downloaded film of 2016. According to file sharing publication TorrentFreak, the Marvel film was the most downloaded movie on torrent client BitTorrent, kompas.com reported.

Deadpool raked in US$363 million in the United States alone, making it the country's sixth largest-grossing film in 2016. Meanwhile, globally, it grossed up to $783 million.

Other high-earning box office films have also landed high on the most pirated content list.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which grossed more than $800 million globally, ranked second, while Captain America: Civil War, which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide was third. Star Wars: The Force Awakens and X-Men Apocalypse, which reportedly grossed more than $2 billion and $544 million worldwide, respectively, sat in the fourth and fifth positions. Meanwhile, Warcraft, Independence Day: Resurgence, Suicide Squad, Finding Dory and The Revenant occupied the next five spots.

Previously, Game of Thrones was announced as the most pirated TV series for the last five consecutive years. (mas/kes)
