ashion designer Biyan Wanaatmadja launched his Spring/Summer 2018 women's collection last week at The Dharmawangsa hotel in South Jakarta.

Themed 'Elsewhere', the designer introduced a soft deconstruction collection, involving contrasting fabrics, styles and colors.

Though the designs involved contrasting materials and styles, such as a combination of straight cut and flowing looks or embroidery on crisp pinstripe fabric, the designer ensured that the collection was still wearable.

“Even when it is worn separately, the design still looks nice,” he said.

During the press conference, he shared that the collection was inspired by the cycle of life.

“The rhythm [of life] feels faster and gets more complex. It becomes a challenge for creative workers,” he said, adding that it was still important to stay current.

Biyan, who has been working as a fashion designer for 35 years, saw many contradictions in the current world. Hence, in 'Elsewhere', Biyan wanted to showcase the spirit of a contrast in harmony.

Each design was set to give a bold statement and room to experiment for the wearers.

“You should wear [the collection] your way,” he said. (asw)
