Jokowi among most-followed leaders on Twitter

After being recognized as one of the most-interactive world leaders on Instagram, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo was recently named one of the “most-followed world leaders on Twitter” according to a recent study.

fter being recognized as one of the most interactive world leaders on Instagram, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo was recently named one of the “most-followed world leaders on Twitter” according to a recent study.

Jokowi (@Jokowi) is ranked in tenth position with over 7.4 million followers based on the Twiplomacy study by global PR firm Burson-Marsteller released in May.

Meanwhile, Pope Francis (@Pontifex), who often tweets about his daily thoughts and prayers in different languages, claimed top spot with 33.7 million followers, followed by US President Donald Trump (@RealDonaldTrump) in second place with 30.1 million followers and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi (@Narendra Modi) in third place with over 30 million followers of his personal account.

The study also found that Twitter is most used social media platform by world leaders and government institutions. There are currently 850 Twitter accounts managed by head of states, governments and foreign ministers in more than 170 countries. Meanwhile, Facebook and Instagram are in second and third place with more than 600 and 300 accounts, respectively.

“Twiplomacy” is a global study of world leaders on social media. The PR firm collected data on May 22 using its own Burson Tools to analyze 731,880 possible Twitter connections between world leaders. (kes)
