n its efforts to preserve Java’s rich culture the Gunungkidul Cultural Agency will host the Yogyakarta Arts Festival 2017 in Wonosari town square throughout Aug. 7-12.
“In addition to determining the timing of activities, [we also need to] coordinate art performances that will be staged in the event,” the agency's head Ristu Raharja told Antara news agency regarding preparations for the festival.

This year, the Yogyakarta Arts Festival will offer a lineup of performances by 25 different groups from 18 districts and representatives from outside the region. The performances include campur sari (traditional songs covered in a modern style) performances, as well as dances like the Jatilan (bamboo horse dance) and Reog (traditional masked dance).
An art parade is slated to close the event, which will kick off at the Wonosari town square and then head to the city park to the west and then return to Wonosari. (tha/kes)
