bnu Susilo, the innovator of Fin Komodo vehicles, has won the 2017 Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie Technology Award (BJHTA) bestowed by the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT).
As reported by kompas.com, the panel of judges consisted of representatives from various agencies and was led by a BPPT judge.
"The national off-road utility vehicle was designed using aircraft methodology, resulting in a lightweight yet very sturdy [vehicle] in extreme terrain," BPPT head Unggul Priyanto said on Tuesday.
The criteria for the 10th BJHTA award was based on a number of innovation principles, such as discovery value, creativity, efficiency, effectiveness and added value. The impact on the technology industry was also assessed.
In manufacturing, the PT Fin Komodo Teknologi company reached a domestic content level (TKDN) of 90 percent, creating expectations that Fin Komodo could contribute to the domestic technology industry.
The company involves 42 small and medium enterprises in the production process.

The Fin Komodo car is an off-road vehicle for minimal infrastructure areas, such as forests, villages, farms, mining sites and underdeveloped areas.
When driving in forests, Fin Komodo can travel 100 kilometers within 6 to 7 hours using five liters of fuel, a quarter of the tank's overall capacity of 20 liters. The car can also navigate muddy fields and 45-degree slopes.
"Indonesia is from Sabang to Merauke. The lands with proper infrastructure are no more than five percent. The rest is off-road terrain. The communities lead a similar life but without vehicles. What happens is that there are city vehicles that are adapted to the villages, not village specific villages," Ibnu said.
Ibnu said that the development of the technology industry in the country was like a culture. The process should be carried out gradually, so it takes a while for the industry to mature, he said. (liz/kes)
