According to a survey released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), men are happier living in Aceh compared to women.
“Men’s level of happiness is at 72.23 points,” said Wahyudin, the head of the BPS in Aceh, to Antara news agency.
“This level is higher than that of women, who are only at 71.76 points.”
Wahyudin and his team surveyed happiness levels in 23 regencies and cities in Aceh based on gender.
The survey involved 3,000 people and focused on three dimensions, namely life satisfaction, affection and eudaimonia, or “meaning of life”.
The results reveal that men in Aceh have lower levels of life satisfaction and affection compared to women.
In the life satisfaction category, they only have 72.64 points, while women have 73.16.

“But in eudaimonia, men receive a higher number, at 75.24, while women only have 73.20,” Wahyudin pointed out.
Marriage status also influences happiness levels.
“Married people have 73.06 points and this is higher than the level for those who are not yet married. People who are married are far happier because they have meaning in life,” said Wahyudin.
The survey shows that, overall, Aceh has 71.96 points in the happiness index. The number is higher than the overall happiness index in Indonesia, which is only 70.69 points.
The province ranked at the top of the index is North Maluku, with 75.68 points. At the bottom is Papua, with 67.52 points. (wir/asw)
