A

limited-edition fine jewelry piece designed by Chinese jewelry designer Bao Bao Wan was recently revealed at the St. Regis Shanghai Jing’an in China.

Inspired by the St. Regis afternoon tea ritual, the bespoke pendant takes the shape of a teapot with inlaid gemstones.

Wan as the first St. Regis Connoisseur from China chose to feature unique brand elements, including the St. Regis monogram, seven inlaid diamonds on its handle as a tribute to Mrs. Astor—deemed the St. Regis matriarch, from the Astor family who opened the St. Regis Hotel in New York in 1904—who had a penchant for diamonds, as well as a red ruby on the teapot lid as a nod to the brand’s signature color.

The afternoon tea ritual is regarded as heritage passed down from Mrs. Astor, who as the grand dame of New York high society in the late 19th century transformed the social ritual into a private social gathering for socialites and elites.

Wan brings together two tea cultures, Western and traditional Chinese, on the pendant. “I was very inspired by the St. Regis Afternoon Tea Ritual, a timeless legacy passed down from Mrs. Astor as the prelude to some of the most legendary social events and hope to convey the brand’s hallmark sense of hospitality through this piece,” said Wan in a statement.

The jewelry will soon be available for order on the St. Regis online boutique, stregisboutique.com. (wen/kes)
