Google Maps has introduced a new feature to help drivers in Jakarta find alternative routes during the odd-even license plate hours.
Antara reported that users could use the feature by activating the app during the odd-even license plate hours and enter a specific destination.
Google Maps will ask users to choose either the odd or even car license plate. If the car cannot pass the route, the app will redirect the vehicle to an alternative route.

Krish Vitaldevara, Google Maps group product manager, said on Tuesday that the feature was currently only available in Indonesia, however, it would be developed in other cities that implemented similar policies.
First implemented in the capital in August 2016, the odd-even license plate policy applies on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. During those hours, cars with license plates ending in even numbers can use the roads on even number dates, and vice versa for license plates ending in odd numbers.
In addition to odd-even plate license feature, Google Maps also added two new features for Car Free Day and motorcycle. The former works similar to the odd-even plate license feature, as it provides alternative routes for users driving during Car Free Day. Meanwhile, the motorcycle feature allows users to find the best routes, which include shortcuts and narrow streets. (jes/kes)
