fter presenting Torajan motif Barre Allo (sunrise) from South Sulawesi in the United States in September last year, Indonesian designer Decy Ramona is set to showcase a new collection of its brand Tyramona at Dubai International Fashion Week 2018 from April 5 to 7.

Themed "Pa' Tangke Lumu Toraja", the collection is said to target Dubai's middle- to upper-class fashionistas. "Especially those who are looking for elegant party dresses," said Decy during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday as quoted by Antara.

"Pa' Tangke Lumu Toraja" is a Torajan term for "family that lives happily together", in which tangke means branch, lumu means moss, while situru means according to plan.

The design, popularly known as Pa'Lumu, has been made to appear more elegant and sumptuous with contemporary touches of payet (sequins), pearls and Swarovski crystals. It was also combined with a betel leaf motif to make it more lively and colorful. As for the moss, which usually has a green color, it was turned into purple and blue with grey gradation.

Moss can easily be found in the archipelagic country of Indonesia, with its islands stretching along the equator. Hence this design symbolizes unity among the islands and the people.

The 49-year-old designer who was born in Makassar said her design was made to be more modern without neglecting its original roots.

Prior to the US and the United Arab Emirates, Decy has highlighted the culture of Sulawesi through her works in other countries like Malaysia and the Netherlands. (kes)
