Indonesia Raja 2018 aims to exchange short films from cities in Indonesia and create a discussion platform for audiences.
he fourth edition of Indonesia Raja, a movement of exchanging short film programs across several cities in Indonesia, entered the distribution phase on June 3.
Initiated in 2015 by Bali-based Minikino, an organization dedicated to short films, Indonesia Raja gathered nine short film programs from different cities, including Bali, Bandung, Jabodetabek, Palu in Central Sulawesi, Balikpapan in East Kalimantan, Surabaya in East Java and Jember in East Java.
The organization then selected nine programmers for each city who are responsible for gathering short films from local filmmakers. These films will be later selected and arranged to be in one short film program.

“By watching a series of short films that were thoughtfully organized, we will find the achievements in creativity, technology, education, social, culture and other real aspects from each city in Indonesia. Everything is implicitly and explicitly recorded in these works,” said Fransiska Prihadi, the coordinator of Indonesia Raja 2018, in a press release, noting that this year was the first time for Palu and Balikapapan to be included on the list.
Rickdy Vanduwin S., a programmer from Bali, for instance, collected five short films under the theme Tension in Five Rounds. “Through this program, I hope I can bring the audience into a tense atmosphere. Although not all of these films are horror, tensions are presented in each film through other aspects, such as secret, anxiety and curiosity,” Rickdy wrote on the program catalog.
Among the films within Tension in Five Rounds are Trunyan (Beyond the Lake) by I Gede Gandhi Bramayusa and Leak (Wicked Witch) by Anak Agung Ngurah Bagus Kesuma Yudha.
All of the screening events for Indonesia Raja films are open to the public. (wir/wng)
