The Kama Asmara exhibition will feature more than 50 vendors that specialize in traditional ceremonies.
mid a rise in popularity of non-traditional weddings, the Kama Asmara exhibition is making its debut by highlighting traditional weddings.
Slated to run from June 29 to July 1, the event will take place in the Grand Ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan, in South Jakarta.
The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan and JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta cluster director of weddings Dini Tirta said the market opportunity for traditional weddings was attractive.
“It [the market] is really strong; it’s wide open and the demand is still high,” Dini said during a press conference on Tuesday at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan, adding that the demand for traditional weddings at the hotel had been high over the past year.
“There’s a particular market for traditional weddings and we typically [...] hold the ceremony at balai [halls] or meeting halls. We try to inform them [visitors] that holding a traditional wedding ceremony in a five-star hotel is possible using their budget.”
Targeting 1,500 visitors per day, Kama Asmara is set to focus on five popular traditional ceremonies from Javanese, Sundanese, West Sumatra’s Padang, South Sumatra’s Palembang and North Sumatra’s Batak cultures.
More than 50 vendors will participate in the event, offering various options of traditional wedding packages.

Ega Alamsyah, representing Wedding Carnaval as the exhibition’s organizer, said there would be many prizes at the event, such as diamond rings and pendants for couples who purchase packages and an hour-long wedding package auction with a bid price starting between Rp 1,000,000 (US$70) and Rp 120,000,000.
Visitors looking to participate in the auction can register at the exhibition via Wedding Carnaval’s Instagram by providing details on their names, wedding date and arrival date.
“So far, 175 couples have registered through Instagram Direct Message,” said Ega, adding that visitors could also opt to join the auction without registering by paying a fee of Rp 100,000.
During the event, three kebaya designers are set to showcase their works, namely Aluira Kebaya, Rumah Kebaya and designer Fitri Alamsjah.
Aluira Kebaya will hold a solo fashion show on June 29 at 6:30 p.m. and display 10 outfits under the Simple Glamour theme, starting with form-fitting kebaya adorned with beads and sequins. It will also take part in a kebaya parade on July 1 under the theme Simple and Minimalist.
Rumah Kebaya and Fitri Alamsjah will join the parade, showcasing their respective Kutubaru Hijau Emerald and Cultural Diversity concepts. (kes)
