O

wned by Deoleo, a Spanish multinational olive oil processing company, olive oil brand Bertolli has received 16 awards this year for their Black Label and Premium Edition lines.

Bertolli Black Label took home gold at both the Japan Olive Oil Prize and the London International Olive Oil Competition, while Bertolli Premium Edition took home silver at the New York International Olive Oil Competition.

"We are always delighted to gain further recognition for our brands around the world, as exemplified by these latest wins for Bertolli in prestigious competitions," said Deoleo chief commercial officer Miguel De Jaime Guijarro.

"We aim to hold on to our market lead and, to do that, we are constantly innovating to enhance the brands' good name. In addition, with the newly designed ‘Lucca bottle', we sought to enhance the credentials of the brand and clearly communicate the elements that are part of the history and the heritage."

According to CNN, the way olive oil is stored is highly important to its preservation. When buying it in a store, make sure it is in a dark green glass bottle, as heat and light can damage the oil by creating oxidation.

The consumption of olive oil itself also comes with a myriad of rewards. As reported by Medical News Today, research suggests that a regular inclusion of olive oil in one’s diet can lessen the chances of cardiovascular diseases, such as high blood pressure, stroke and high blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Olive oil also contains polyphenols, which work to protect your cells from damage, and can potentially have anti-inflammatory properties.

Luckily, there are many ways to incorporate olive oil into your diet, as it can be used in everything from snacks to entrées and even desserts. (sul/mut)
