The exhibition features mostly black-and-white sketches of stupas, mosques, temples, churches and fragments of Jesus' crucifixion.
ozens of sketches by Mudji Sutrisno will be on display at the Bentara Budaya Balai Soedjatmoko cultural space in Surakarta, Central Java, until Friday.
The Kumandang Ing Sepi (Sleeping in Silence) exhibition features mostly black-and-white sketches of stupas, mosques, temples, churches and fragments of Jesus’ crucifixion.
"These sketches serve as a reflection of the noisy conditions of our nation related to politics, religion, God and intolerance. Praying spaces are a symbol of silence, a good place to bring our religious identity back," Mudji told The Jakarta Post at the opening event.

Up to 90 sketches are exhibited at the venue, mostly created using paper, as well as black and white ink. Other than religious-related works, visitors can also expect to find some colored sketches of various fruit where the artist used acrylic paint.
Mudji is mostly recognized for his simple, yet powerful, technique of drawing a complicated object using only lines.
Bentara Budaya curator Efix Mulyadi said Mudji had succeeded in finding quiet places within so much noise, like temples, mosques and churches.
"From these sketches, he's inviting us to follow him to explore the spiritual realm," Efix added. (kes)
