he 11th installment of Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) officially kicked off on Saturday at Senayan City shopping mall in Central Jakarta. 

Slated to run until Oct. 26, this year’s event highlights collaborations between countries, industries, generations, as well as communities. 

JFW head and Femina Group CEO Svida Alisjhabana said in her remarks at the opening show that the international collaboration involved various countries, including the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Pakistan, India and France. 

On the eventful first day, Australian Fashion Showcase was among the main highlights. For the show, local brand Batik Chic showcased its collection along with designers from Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation (DAAFF), a nonprofit organization governed by Australian Indigenous community Art Centers.

Batik Chic designer Novita Yunus said during a press conference that her collection, dubbed “BC Bush”, was inspired by Indonesian and Australian flowers. She combined the flowers and applied it on batik materials. Using batik Tuban, the collection featured modern ethnic attire in blue, red, black and sogan (deep brown) colors. 

Following the Batik Chic collection, designers from DAAFF presented their designs on stage. Titled "From Country to Couture", the collection showcased aboriginal designs being applied on silk dresses and printed fabric.  

In addition to Australian Fashion Showcase, the first day also saw Emerging Pakistan presenting The Woman by Zuria Dor; FASHIONLINK x #BLCKVNUE presents alex[a]lexa, Monday to Sunday, Amanda Rahardjo & Aloes; and Indonesian Fashion Forward presenting Bateeq, Danjyo Hiyoji & NY by Novita Yunus styled by Japanese fashion stylist Makoto Washizu.
