T

he Foreign Ministry is continuing to monitor the condition of Indonesian pilgrims who were aboard two buses involved in a road accident on Tuesday in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

Of the 10 Indonesians injured in the incident, which resulted in no fatalities, only one remains under observation at a local hospital.

In a statement on Wednesday, Citizen Protection Director Heni Hamidah said the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah “continues to monitor the condition of the victims and coordinate with local authorities, travel organizers and relevant parties to ensure all pilgrims receive the necessary care and assistance”.

Two buses were involved in a traffic accident at around 10:30 a.m. on April 29 while en route to Jabal Magnet, or Magnetic Hill, a popular tourist site near Medina.

The incident occurred when the SUB 2 bus, which was carrying pilgrims from East Java capital Surabaya, crashed into the JKS 1 bus carrying pilgrims from Jakarta, injuring 10 passengers: three from the Surabaya bus, including a superintendent from the Nurul Haraiman Haj and Umrah Guidance Group (KBIHU), and seven from the Jakarta bus.

All but one passenger had returned to their hotel in Medina after receiving medical treatment, according to the Foreign Ministry.
