hile brands all seem to be harking back to the 1990s this season, there are several trends in store for summer 2019, notably with travel-inspired themes.

Safari-style animal print, for example, is set to bring a wild side to this vacation season’s hottest looks. Whether rocked head-to-toe, in discreet touches or in accessory form, the time is right to pounce on animal prints such as leopard, snake and zebra.

A host of brands sent animal print down the runway at the spring/summer 2019 shows, held back in September and October 2018.

The head-to-toe look proved particularly popular with luxury ready-to-wear labels, giving rise to a bold summer wardrobe. Still, some designers nodded to the trend with smaller touches of animal print, offering a more accessible way to wear the motifs.

Head-to-toe leopard or snake

While python print was a hit with certain fashion houses – see Emporio Armani’s super-bright neon version – leopard is set to be king of prints when it comes to livening up summer looks.

Many brands showed all-over looks, such as Longchamp, with its Wild West inspirations mixing animal print and fringing, and Elie Saab, with a full outfit – shorts, top, jacket, bag and thigh boots – for a walk on the wild side in the utmost style.

Dolce & Gabbana went for Italian-style retro glamour with a slightly sheer asymmetric dress worn with pumps and socks.

Whatever the style, summer is the perfect season to try out a head-to-toe leopard look, channelling a chic and feminine vibe with an unmistakably untamed roar. Whether at the beach or in the city, the fiercest of fashion fans can prowl with pride this summer.

Carnival of animal accessories

The good news for fashion fans looking for a more discreet way to board the trend is that animal print is also coming to a load of accessories this season.

From sandals and thigh boots to sunglasses, handbags and scarves, luxury labels went all out with animal-print pieces to liven up the season’s looks with accessories finished in leopard, snake or zebra motifs.

Blumarine, for example, showed a large snake-print bag, while Saint Laurent pinned leopard-print scarves to blouse collars, and Rochas brought its subtly colourful reinterpretation of leopard and zebra motifs to bags and shoes.

Note that Antonio Marras stood out from the crowd by using animal print to form wide bands on several dress designs  – also paired with other motifs and prints.

Similarly, animal print created several wide panels on a loose-cut yellow raincoat.
