eans are a basic, closet staple that everyone has. With the right pair of jeans, you only need to throw on a simple T-shirt to look chic.
However, because of their status as a closet staple, many people do not think too much when it comes to buying or wearing their jeans.
Here are 5 tips to wear your jeans like a pro, as compiled by the Reader's Digest:
1. Find the right size
Every type of jeans hangs differently so your size might change from one type or brand to another. However, keep in mind that most denim fabric stretches out overtime. Laura Freiman in her book 50 Ways to Wear Denim tells you to go for a smaller size when your true-size is in the middle of two sizes. The jeans will stretch and fit overuse.
2. Learn how to cuff
Cuffed-denim pants are easy, instant upgrade to your look. However, every type of jeans demands a different type of cuffs.
According to WhoWhatWear, loose and wide-legged jeans are better with thick cuff while skinny jeans are better with a mini, skinny cuff that hits just above your ankle.

3. Be gentle while washing
First thing first: jeans do not need frequent washing. You can just air your jeans between uses without actually washing them until they have visible stains or start to smell. Some people actually just put their jeans in the freezer to get rid of the smells.
While washing your jeans, turn your pair inside out and wash with cold water, then hang to dry to minimize shrinking and fading.
4. Check the details
Look at the tag and check the fabric of your jeans. If possible, always go for 100 percent cotton as they will last longer. Jeans with two percent spandex or Lycra can be more comfortable at first, but they will stretch out sooner than cotton.
While fitting your jeans, check the size and the shape of the pockets to see how the jeans influence your look from behind. For women: check whether the pockets are actually functional.
5. Avoid a fashion faux pas
Jeans can be worn with anything, except, other jeans. The Canadian tuxedo is a big no-no for many people. If you want to wear two jeans in one go, make sure that you have two different colors: light wash and dark wash.
Also, while jeans are mostly fine for a casual Friday, try to play safe by not wearing rugged, heavily distressed ripped jeans to work. Choose a deep blue or black jeans with a slim and sleek cut instead. (dev/kes)
