Media tycoon Erick Thohir and television veteran Wishnutama have been named as the newest shareholders of Satria Dewa Studio.

The studio will release the film Satria Dewa Gatotkaca in February 2020.

“This is good news for the development of Satria Dewa Studio, which is in preparation for something big in October,” said Rene Ishak, the film’s executive producer, in an official statement.

Satria Dewa Gatotkaca is the first of eight films within the Satria Dewa Universe and is registered as the studio’s intellectual property. The rest of the movie’s titles are named after characters, stories and places in the Mahabharata epic, such as Arjuna, Yudhistira, Bharatayuda, Bima, Nakula Sadewa, Srikandi and Kurukshetra. Aside from films, the universe is also said to include merchandise, mobile games, comics and even a theme park.

For Satria Dewa Gatotkaca, the studio has teamed up with Caravan Studio’s Chris Lie who is responsible for the film’s artwork. Satria Dewa Studio is also in collaboration with Magma Entertainment’s Charles Gozali and Linda Gozali as the film’s director and producer, respectively.

Satria Dewa Gatotkaca was the only film selected by the Indonesian Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) to join the Licensing Expo China 2019 in July in Shanghai. (wir/wng)
