he annual Indonesia Diecast Expo (IDE) is set to return on Oct. 26-27 at Hall 3A of the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD, South Tangerang, Banten.
The sixth installment of the IDE aims to raise awareness among the public that diecast toys are more than just miniature cars as they include a wide variety of small-scale models, including miniature airplanes, that take a great deal of time, effort and skills to make.
This year’s exhibition will feature a custom designing competition held in collaboration with Jakarta Sneaker Day, an annual event for sneakerheads in Indonesia, said 2019 IDE spokesperson Feldani Effendy.
Participants will have the chance to decorate their diecast cars according to the design of popular sneakers. Feldani said the competition would be a platform for participants to channel their creativity and the results will become valuable items.
“They can be collector’s items,” Feldani told tempo.co.

Organizers have also promoted the 2019 IDE as the perfect time to buy event cars, or special-edition diecast cars, such as the customized Hot Wheels 1990 Honda Civic EF, Volkswagen Drag Bus, Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R and Morris Mini.
“Several event cars with special numbers have been customized by famous diecast customizers in Indonesia,” said Feldani. “This certainly adds a greater investment value for those who are lucky to own them.”
This year’s IDE will feature other events as well, such as a diecast racing competition, an exhibition, auction and charity event, as well as displays of 1:1 scale diecasts. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet Hot Wheels designer Brendon Vetuskey, entrepreneur and collector Christian Coujin and former Hot Wheels designer and product design director Jun Imai.
Established in 2014, IDE has seen an increase in visitors each year, starting from 10,742 people in 2014 to 13,335 in 2018. The event has also featured international guest stars, namely customizer Chris Stangler in 2017 and Jun Imai in 2018. (wir/kes)
