alshadilla Juwita, the daughter of dangdut diva Iis Dahlia, has been condemned for comments she made regarding Bollywood movies that have been deemed as racist.

According to tempo.co, the incident began after Iis posted an Instagram story of her watching an Indian film, which she asked Salshadilla to watch along with her.

However her daughter declined, saying, “I don’t like [Indian movies], I'd rather watch Korean [films]. [Koreans] are nicer to look at, their skins are cleaner. India is dirty."

The comments soon triggered a public outcry, especially from those who enjoy Bollywood films.

Addressing the backlash, Sashadilla, who has studied in the United Kingdom, posted a public apology on Sunday. 

“Advocating for colorism since I was an exchange student in high school and receiving it, my behavior was not something that could be easily forgiven and I felt like I was a hypocrite. I was not aware that I was recorded, yet there is no excuse for what I have said. I deeply regret my mistakes and hope that I can learn from it. Much love,” she said on her Instagram account @salshaindradjaja. (gis/kes)
