“Considering the current situation, we’d like to apologize that our performance has had to be postponed,” said Teater Koma’s manager, Ratna Riantiarno, on the troupe’s Instagram account.
egendary theater troupe Teater Koma has announced that it will reschedule its 160th production, Sampek Engtay, to Jan. 30-31, 2021, at Ciputra Artpreneur Theater in South Jakarta.
Sampek Engtay was initially scheduled to be held from March 28 to 29 before being rescheduled to Aug. 15-16 at Ciputra Artpreneur Theater. It was postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the health and safety of the actors, crew and audience being the theater's main concern. There is also the possibility that a new policy might be applied for art performances during the outbreak.
“Considering the current situation, we’d like to apologize that our performance has had to be postponed,” said Teater Koma’s manager, Ratna Riantiarno, on the troupe’s Instagram account.
Purchased tickets will remain valid for the new dates. More information is available on Loket.com and customer service on (+62) 021 80600822 or by e-mail at support@loket.com.
Sampek Engtay is among the troupe’s highly anticipated performances and the first early bird tickets offered in March had sold out. This year’s performance was planned to commemorate the story’s 32nd anniversary with several upgrades, including the characters’ costumes and makeup as well as background music and staging.
Sampek Engtay tells the story of Engtay, a woman who disguises herself as a man to receive a formal education. She later meets Sampek who also studies at the same school and becomes his roommate. One day, Engtay realizes that she has fallen in love with Sampek. She feels conflicted as her parents ask her to return home to marry Macun, the son of a rich landowner from Rangkasbitung in Lebak, Banten. (wir/wng)
