ive Indonesian designers are to be featured at the "world's first international hybrid fashion project", Global Talents Digital, initiated by the Russian Fashion Council, from Sept. 4 to 6.
The designers presenting their collections at the sustainability-focused edition of the project are Rosie Rahmadi, Gregorius Vici, Aldrie Indrayana, Anggiasari and Emmy Thee. All five are members of the Indonesian Fashion Chamber.
"Gregorius Vici from Indonesia is a brand with a long history. [...] Working directly with fabrics, Vici thought about waste management issues and ways to create new cost-effective products. In the new collection, the designer often used the patchwork technique in the form of inserts and appliques on clothing," reads a recent post on the Russian Fashion Counil’s Instagram account on Tuesday.
Rosie Rahmadi, whose collection KALOPSIA will be presented live at the project's various platforms on Sept. 6 at 7:20 p.m. Jakarta time, will highlight handmade modest ready wear dominated with a natural tone pallet and comfortable fabrics such as linen, cotton and viscose, as well as A line and H line silhouettes. Many macrame items in the collection were designed to be mixed and matched with other items, such as tops, tunics, palazzo, outers and dresses. This concept allows each item’s lifespan to last longer, as the pieces can be mixed and matched for different functions and styles.
“I hope this collection can inspire and show that when we are creative, we don’t need too many clothes. With just a few pieces we can change how we dress for many occasions [and we can] buy less and prolong the lifetime of our clothes,” said Rosie on her Instagram account.
As with other events, fashion festivals have gone digital amid the pandemic, including in Indonesia. The Fashion and Cultural Festival recently held its annual presentation dubbed "Fashi(ON) Line" in early July in the form of an online event livestreamed on YouTube to showcase the works of 29 local and international designers.
