A documentary on K-pop group BLACKPINK will be available for streaming on Netflix on Oct. 14.

BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky will chronicle the group’s four-year journey from trainees to global success. According to Variety, the film will feature exclusive interviews and never-seen footage, including a performance at the 2019 Coachella music festival.

The film is directed by Caroline Suh, who produced the Netflix documentary Salt Fat Acid Heat featuring celebrated chef Samin Nosrat.

“The K-pop phenomenon has been sweeping the globe, and BLACKPINK has arguably become the most recognizable and most popular girl group in the world,” Adam Del Deo of Netflix said in a statement. “Director Caroline Suh’s trusted relationship with Jisoo, Jennie, Rose and Lisa offers organic and honest moments that give viewers an authentic inside look into the lives of BLACKPINK as well as the dedication and grueling preparation each member puts into every hit song, history-making performance and sold-out arena tour.”

In June, BLACKPINK broke five Guinness world records on YouTube after releasing the first single, “How You Like That”, from its long-awaited first full album. It became the most viewed video in 24 hours and the most viewed music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.

YG Entertainment, the company that manages BLACKPINK, announced in July that the group’s first full studio album would be released on Oct. 2. The group will also release another single this month. (wng)
