Dancers from 11 cities in four countries invite the audience to cheer up and donate.
ancers in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Nigeria will hit the stages of the online charity performance "Hope" this Sunday, starting from 5 p.m.
As the name suggests, the volunteer movement Gerakan Turun Tangan, ballet.id and art institute Swargaloka invite the audience to raise hope during the pandemic as well as donations for struggling artists.
On its website, ballet.id said the spread of the coronavirus had had a major impact on all aspects of life, and for artists all around the world, including Indonesia, life seemed to have stopped.
"However, a situation like this cannot be ignored, the wheel of dance must continue to run in any situation," it said.
Although art has started to grow on digital platforms, the experience of watching live dance performances cannot simply be replaced by watching virtual performances.
"However, it is undeniable that online performances are able to reach art lovers wherever they are. Our artistry has experienced so much limitation in this situation, but we never stop exploring, showing solidarity, keep supporting each other and outpouring creativity to find a way to overcome obstacles and stay strong together."
A followup to the Seniman Bantu Seniman (Artists Help Artists) solidarity act program last July, all proceeds will be donated to artists and art and cultural workshops in Indonesia to support their activities.
The lineup includes a collaboration between ballet.id, Swargaloka and Indonesian Dance Company (IDCO); In Motion; Speranza Dance Indonesia; Bandung-based ONE Dance Academy; Abib Igal; Yogyakarta-based Chakil Squad; TNR Dancesport; art performers KitaPoleng and Papua-based Domberai.
The Philippines' Ballet Manila, Bangkok City Ballet and Nigeria's Leap of Dance Academy will also take part in the benefit event.
The dance performances will be livestreamed via Zoom from 11 cities. Tickets are available at bit.ly/hopedt or visit Instagram @ballet.id for further information. (ste)
