I

think that the former president Soeharto is absolutely more than a hero. Many people could say that he is a killer, he is bad and etc. But can you imagine for 32 years he did his best for this country.

We can see too many results that he did. Doesn't matter how bad the process. But most of us prefer the results. Can anybody show us the results of the "reform era"? Nothing, only burning everywhere, prices getting higher and higher.

Is that the reform we need? I don't think so. And maybe 80 percent of Indonesian people could say that former president Soeharto was a better president. SIMRI

A hero will tell the truth for his country by books/media ifguilty or not from the depth of his heart. But Soeharto never did that before he died. He kept the secrets. It would have been better had he opened the secrets and the world would honor him as a hero. He's a hero for corruptors and criminals. RAI

Pak Soeharto was a hero and a real nationalist, we should be proud on him as a big leader. A wise leader like him is born only once a while. KHALID

Isn't a hero someone that saves lives? When Soeharto ruled many died or went missing.

So I guess its obvious, Soeharto is not a hero! STEVEN

He was a (disguised) villain because he was never put in jail. Unfortu-nately, despite all the good things he did, Soeharto will always be remembered for bringing many disasters to this nation.

His daughter tearfully cried for forgiveness for him, yet it won't happen without remuneration. Let's not forget that. TRINITATI SARAGIH

Soeharto was a hero who brought comfort to the hearts of Indonesians as he made it possible for every man to feed his family and put their children to school.

His drawback was one, his inability to strictly control his "cronies", which made him sit on the throne for too long and made him a villain. AYU

We will miss the innocent smile of Soeharto forever. Dubbed a dictator by international media, the charis-matic former president ruled this country for 32 years in his own style, bringing up Indonesia as a strong ASEAN member, crushing the slightest opposition to his whims. May his life rest in peace. BADRI

During his time the economy strengthened, agriculture prospered and international relations advanced. I don't think I need to mention his success, people can read the book titled Seribu alasan rakyat mencintai Pak Harto (Thousand reasons for people to love Pak Harto).

Even if he brought Indonesia to new heights at the expense of his wrongdoings, I still think he is a hero. I hope the public is not blind to the current condition of the country. SONAM D

Soeharto was the man who did everything for the good of our country. Yet we still question his achievements. Corruption exists everywhere, it is established by the political discourse of today, yet it doesn't mean that the world is full of villains.

After he stepped down our currency weakened, imports grew, exports declined, traffic problems grew due to the busway. This is all evidence of a country going backward. Yet we still question the resplendent hero after he rests in peace. May he be blessed and his soul rest in peace. SACHEEV D

We would like to appreciate Pak Harto's effort to develop our nation, especially as an agricultural country. He is a hero. Good bye Pak Harto. You are our inspiration. We will always miss you. HENDRA IBRAHIM

Most TV stations are owned by Soeharto's family and friends. No wonder if the news for him when he passed away was so good as to give the impression that Indonesia loves him and that he is entitled to be a hero to escape all charges against him.

But the government order to the public to lower flags for himfor seven days has been responded to reluctantly. RATNA

Soeharto was truly a villain king. That will never change, even if SBY gives him an honor as a hero. Behind Soeharto's smile, he seized the rights of Indonesian people.

His repressive approach caused suffering to many people. There was no law enforcement since he came to power. I believe that Allah will give him an appropriate punishment. AKBAR
