Museum observes decade of reform

The Jakarta History Museum is holding a one-month exhibition to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the reform era.

The exhibition displays photographs taken from media reports, mainly from Tempo magazine. Stories and details accompany the photographs.

The exhibition depicts milestones of the reform period over the past 10 years, as well as Jakarta governorships from 1942.

"I hope the government and parliament still have the will to reveal who was responsible for the murder of my son. All necessary evidence is available," said Hiratetty Yoga, mother of Elang Mulya Lesmana, a student killed on his universitsy campus during a protest in 1998. She was speaking Tuesday at the opening of the exhibition.

"I am just a parent. What could I have done to fight the government? So let history speak for itself," she said.

In August 2005, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono gave Pahlawan Reformasi (Reform Hero) titles to four Trisakti University students killed on May 12, 1998, namely Elang Mulya Lesmana, Heri Hertanto, Hafidin Royan and Hendriawan Sie.

It remains unclear who is responsible for the shooting of the students.

Sub-agency head for research and development at the city culture and museum agency, Tinia Budiati, said "We learn through history, we do not merely remember.

"All of us in this society, the students and the government, must learn from history to avoid repeating the same mistakes."
