he Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet paid a working visit to Jakarta from March 24-28 on its way to Vladivostok from Somalia and the Gulf of Aden, where it had been engaged for the past four months in combating sea piracy.
The visit was aimed at strengthening ties between the Russian and Indonesian navies.
During the stopover, the head of the fleet Captain V.N. Sokolov and senior naval officers paid a courtesy call on the North Jakarta Mayor B. Sugiyono and the Indonesian Navy's third naval base commander Admiral E. Yusuf.
The crew of the ships visited several cultural and historical sites in Jakarta, and had friendly football and volleyball matches with Indonesian Navy servicemen.
