I am not disabled but I am handicapped in that I must not climb stairs. Unfortunately, the only access from street level to the new mall is either up stairs or down stairs or, when it is working, down an escalator. This is my usual means of entrance, via the escalator to the ground floor, and from there it is easy to get lifts or escalators to other floors. However, this would not be possible if one were in a wheelchair.
Recently, a complication arose. I had been shopping in the mall and then tried to leave. I found all four escalators from street level were only going down; apparently this was a decision by the marketing department. I visited two security offices that were no help and then managed - with considerable difficulty - to find the management office.
They were unaware of the problem and I had to physically show them the geography of the building before they would believe me! I finally discovered an exit that did not use stairs. Go up to the first floor by the lift nearest the car park, enter the car park and walk down the ramp to street level. This is neither easy nor safe with the amount of traffic doing the same thing and no pedestrian walkway.
I feel this is something your reporters may be able to do something about. It is obvious that Blok M management is not interested. I have frequently spoken to security and the marketing offices about this, not to mention the staff at Carrefour.
I sincerely hope you may be able to achieve a result as I am certain that many others are similarly affected.
