Govt told to demand apology from Egypt

The alleged torture of four Indonesian students, who were mistakenly arrested last week by the Egyptian police is "excessive and unjustifiable", a lawmaker and a Muslim scholar said Sunday. "If it is true, and it is likely true, the government should protest stridently and demand an apology from the Egyptian government, and ask them to take action against the security officials who are responsible for the torture," a lawmaker from the National Mandate Party (PAN), Abdillah Toha, was quoted as saying by Antara news agency. The four students were arrested during a raid on June 28 after being suspected of being involved in extremist activities. They claimed to have been stripped naked, electrocuted and beaten while being interrogated in detention, Antara reported.
