UKABUMI: Actress Ayu Azhari, registered herself with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) on Thursday to run for the position of deputy regent of Sukabumi, West Java, tempointeraktif.com reported Friday.

Ayu Azhari, full name Khadijah Azhari, hoped to partner with Hariyanto as regent candidate in the upcoming regent election in Sukabumi.

"Thursday we officially presented the Mba Ayu's nomination requirements to PDI-P. This shows her dedication to the people," Ayu's lawyer Secarpiandy said.

Secarpiandy said he hoped that the coalition led by PDI-P would eventually select Ayu to partner with Hariyanto and nominate the pair as their candidates for regent and deputy regent in the upcoming regent election.

"With Ayu's popularity as an actress, it would help PDI-P achieve more support.

"This nomination is not a sudden decision, it is calculated.

"It means that Mba Ayu has prepared herself to be a leader," he added.

Meanwhile, PDI-P Sukabumi branch secretary Agus Sunardi, disclosed that Ayu was the second person who had come to the party and applied for the deputy regent candidate position.
