JAKARTA: A top Health Ministry official confirmed on Sunday a rumor that Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih has lung cancer.

Ministry special staffer for health policy Bambang Sulistomo said that Endang learned she had lung cancer after she underwent a routine health check-up sometime in October or November last year. “Yes, it is lung cancer,” Bambang said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Bambang said Endang underwent cancer treatment in Guang Zhou, China, several times after learning that she had cancer. He said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was informed of the situation in November last year.

Former health minister Siti Fadilah Supari, who is now a member of the Presidential Advisory Board, said Saturday she knew about Endang’s condition. “I heard rumors that Endang suffers from cancer from many people, including doctors,” Siti said, as quoted by tribunnews.com. — JP
