T

he Jakarta Post has won the Best Online Media for Zakat Reporting award from the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) in recognition of its role in raising awareness about Islamic alms collection.

The award was presented by Baznas chair Noor Achmad during the 2025 Baznas Awards ceremony in Jakarta on Thursday, held as part of the agency’s annual national coordination meeting.

“Without the media, what we have done would not have reached the public, nor would we have been able to deliver our programs to the public,” Noor said in his opening remarks on Thursday.

This year’s Baznas Best Media Award recipients were assessed based on the number of reports published in 2024 on zakat, as well as the agency’s programs.

Throughout last year, the Post published dozens of articles on zakat and Baznas programs. In November, it reported on the agency’s plan to build mosques, schools and hospitals in Gaza, while raising Rp 310 billion (US$19 million) for Palestine and delivering Rp 101 billion worth of humanitarian aid for people affected by the Israeli military occupation in the territory.

The Post also reported on the distribution of thousands of processed meat packages from sacrifices made by Indonesian haj pilgrims to fellow Indonesians in Saudi Arabia, which was managed by Baznas in December.
