OGOR: The local council in Bogor, West Java, has sent a summons to the operator of The Jungle, an amusement park in the city, for staging a dance performance that it deemed indecent for the public.
Councilor Maman Herman said that the hula-hula dance, performed by half-naked dancers during the launch of a new ride at the amusement park, was inappropriate for the city, which prides itself on being the first halal city in the country.
“We told them that the performance violated Article 4 of the Pornography Law, which prohibits performance arts that involve nudity,” Maman said, adding that The Jungle had not secured a permit from the police.
The local council also suggested that The Jungle suspend its operations during the fasting month of Ramadhan. Spokesperson for The Jungle, Wahid, said the hula-hula dance was staged to reflect the ambience of the new ride, called The Wave. — JP
