Jakarta to expand on-street parking ban

AKARTA: After banning on-street parking on streets in Central Jakarta, the City Transportation Agency is planning to implement similar measure in the Pasar Baru area in the same municipality.

Agency head Udar Pristono said that the city had received many complaints from road user on parking in the commercial area.

“We are going to move parking spots to parking garages,” Pristono said Tuesday.

He said that the measure would also drive better security and pedestrian space.

Earlier this year, the city imposed a ban of on-street parking along Jl. Hayam Wuruk and Jl. Gajah Mada, which cut through one of the city’s crowded business districts, in a pilot project for a wider on-street parking ban in the capital.
