AKARTA: The Jakarta Police say they will deploy more officers along the Transjakarta Busway routes to prevent motorists from traveling in the exclusive busway lanes.
City Police traffic division chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Latief Usman said that an additional 206 officers would be deployed along some of Transjakarta’s busiest routes including the one connecting Ragunan and Kuningan in South Jakarta.
Usman said the personnel would also encourage pedestrians to use overpasses instead of attempting to walk across the road, which is extremely dangerous.
However, Usman also said the police would not be able to monitor all Transjakarta routes in the city.
Despite the presence of police officers, motorists still violate — often blatantly — the bylaw that prohibits them from using the busway lanes.
“If you have 100 motorbike riders entering a busway lane, there’s only so much you can do,” he said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
